about the artist

Aloha! My name is Xochi (so-chi) and I take photos, create original paintings, collages, generate AI blends of my photographs and paintings, as well as completely AI rendered images based off ideas I wanted to bring into reality.

I am originally from the 805, Ventura and Oxnard California where my family has lived for 4 generations. I am a mix of mainly Spanish, German, Mexican and Irish. I have been living in Hawaii since 2016 and graduated with a degree in psychology from UH Manoa. I have been living on Kauai since 2021, which has blessed me with the creativity and health necessary for me to take this next step in offering my art more publicly as opposed to only with friends and family.

I grew up riding horses with my sister on a cattle ranch in Somis and taking day trips to the Channel Islands on my dads 25ft fishing boat. Growing up where I did was such a gift, immersed in both cultures surrounding the ocean and agriculture. I spent most of my youth wandering around outside, always curious, in my teenage years I started capturing my perspective and got addicted to doing so. The beauty of trapping a moment in time, a feeling, a thought - through all mediums of art. There seemed to be so much to say about everything, so many gorgeous moments I needed to catch in their perfect light before they were gone forever.

I am in the natal stages of sharing my work, always a delusional idealist the hardest part of being a artist for me has been to share in a way that allows actual engagement and tangible support from my community.

Here marks the beginning of my journey sharing my multimedia smorgasbord of imagery and writing.

A note on my AI artworks

While many traditional artists are staunchly against AI, I believe this stance implies that AI is able to steal style or concepts

and create them in a way that a properly motivated human could not, which I simply don't believe to be true.

AI art is still born from a human idea, and the speed at which we can explore our curiosities and bring them to life using this technology, is something I personally very much enjoy putting my own unique spin on. 

 

Just as anyone can tap into the collective consciousness and create something similar to what they've seen,

or something new that pulls elements inspired by other artists, so can AI.

Albeit much faster and without the physical (and often emotional) labor required of a human.

But I don't see why that should be a deterrent to explore its uses and potential.

I've found it to be a very expansive tool for my artistic process.
